Inquiry - To make or become different

Room 1 blog posts are back! Miss McKenzie finally got her photos onto her computer.

Here are some photos of our current inquiry unit. We have been looking at change and understanding how something can become different.

We have looked at what happens when food coloring is dropped into milk then stirred with a cotton bud covered in dishwashing soap. We found that the food coloring and milk don't mix, but when dish soap is added it attaches itself to the food coloring, making a swirl effect because of the fat in the milk.

We have also looked at what happens when we add food coloring and dishwashing liquid into a drink bottle and swirl it around. We got to see a tornado effect.

Last week we looked at different types of crystals and their properties. We compared to salt, caster sugar and normal sugar. We observed how they sounded and what they looked like when they were crushed.
