Reading Contracts!

We have started working on our fortnightly reading contracts in Room 1. Students have to complete a selection of activities based at their level.

One of these include our newsletter activity where we are working towards summarising the main ideas in the articles.

Each group also works with Miss McKenzie once a week where we focus on learning how to break down our journal using SOLO Taxonomy.  This week we are looking at the multistructural section of SOLO where we are learning to list, describe and define ideas in the journal.

Everyone is working so well and completing all tasks to a high standard!

Friday Good Vibes - Term 1, Week 7.

Well done to Mahina who is involving herself in all of the opportunities at Casebrook from Kapa Haka to dance!

Science trip to the International Antarctic Centre.

Braeden Y was lucky enough to head to the International Antartic Centre - here is a write up from him.

On Wednesday 13th of March, Mrs Johns took myself and a group of students to the International Antarctic Centre for a science trip. We were going to get recorded for a Nanogirl podcast. We pretended that we were going on a trip in the Nanogirl Spacecraft. When we landed we crash landed onto a dome of grass.

We go to talk to an Antarctic Science, his name was Gary. We asked him what would happen if Antarctica melted.
Gary took us into a the storm room to show us what it was like to live in Antarctica, it was very cold in there. We pretended we had only been in there for a few days and a snow storm erupted, we got to feel what this would feel like at -17.8 degrees, it was freezing cold. Before the wind storm it was only -8 degrees.

When we got out of the storm room we went upstairs to do a science experiment. We put drinking water into a bucket and filled it with ice then put pink salt on it. We were trying to freeze it but you have to leave it for 30 or 40 minutes which we didn't have. The scientist had tried to prepare some before we went into the storm room but he prepared it too late.

We learnt that the water will only freeze when you change the pressure of the water. After that we got ready to go back to school. It was a really exciting experience.
