City Mission Guest Speaker

On the last day of Term 1 we were lucky enough to have Luci from The City Mission come and talk to us. We learnt more information about what The City Mission does and what Luci's role is. We talked about how we can build relationships with our community by helping out The City Mission. We discussed our project 'The Walk of Stars' and how this will look in Term 2.

We are excited to get underway. Stay tuned for updates.

Final Youthtown Session for Term 1.

We had our final Youthtown session for Term 1 on Friday. Students had to put the skills they have practiced over the term into a game of Capture the Flag!

We have really enjoyed Youthtown and we are already excited about what up next in Term 2.

Writing

Over the last couple of weeks we have been focusing on writing letters. We have looked at letter heads, first person point of view and formal language.

As a class we researched about the Tangiwai Railway Disaster so we could write a letter to the news paper pretending we were on the train.

All students in Room 1 produced awesome pieces of writing!
Here is a piece of writing from Travis.

Inquiry

This term our inquiry focus has been RELATIONSHIPS.

As a class we have chosen our big question - "How can we create relationships in our community?" We decided to look into the different organisations in our community and we thought about how we could build relationships with these organisations. In groups we focused on different organisations such as The City Mission, The Salvation Army and KidsCan. We looked at what the organisation was and what they did to help in our community.

We decided to focus on The City Mission, so we looked into how we could build a relationship with them.  We have decided to create a "Walk of Stars" next term where we will collect items that we can donate to the City Mission. We are going to spend time advertising for our event next term.  Stay posted for more information.

Tomorrow we have a guest speaker from The City Mission coming to talk to us about her position at The City Mission. We have created questions to ask her about how we can help contribute to their organisation and any tips and ideas for our Walk Of Stars.

Here is a piece of work Harry and Riley created when we started our focus on The City Mission.

Choc for Champs!

It was great to have a year 7 assembly after the last couple of busy weeks.

At these assemblies there is a choc for champs draw where students nominate other students who have gone out of their way to do something great.

This week Room 1 had 3 of the 5 students who were drawn out. Well done Brooklyn, Brayden and Dylan who were nominated - great role models with our current REP focus.

Casebrook Challenge Videos

I have loved receiving evidence of students completing Casebrook Challenges this term.

Sienna went to visit the basketball court in town & Melad went to one of the local parks and picked up rubbish for the afternoon.

Awesome ways of getting involved in Casebrook Challenge!

Tug of War!

Yesterday we had our annual tug of war house competition. After lunch we headed out to the field to see who was the strongest and loudest house.

The year 7 girls versed other year 7 girls from opposition houses, the year 7 boys also versed other year 7 boys from opposition houses. Sawyers was the loudest house and they took our the house chant competition!

Well done to everyone in Room 1 who joined it. It was a great afternoon with some healthy competition.

Bring on next year!

Super 10's Tournament.

Brooklyn and Braidon represented Room 1 and Casebrook at the Super 10's tournament last week.

Casebrook sent several teams along to the tournament where they played other schools in football and Ki o Rahi. Brooklyn and Braidon both demonstrated REP and we were very proud of them.

Congratulations to the Casebrook team that won the whole tournament - the second time ever that our school has won!!!

Friday Good Vibes - Term 1, Week 10.

Well done Melad and Tayla who received our Friday Good Vibes Cards.

  • Melad has given so many of the opportunities at Casebrook a go- it has been fantastic to see him join our film club extension group on a Tuesday and he is also giving football a shot!

  • Tayla has had an awesome term! She has shown lots of perseverance and determination in writing. This has really shown in her Tangiwai Letter writing that she has finished. Well done Tayla!!
